Out with the old...in with Peru

As always we´ll try not to write too much as we have more photos from the rainforest (Park Madidi, Bolivia) and the start of Peru (Puno) to get through and we hate to be a bore. So after Inti Warra Yasi we made our way to Rurrenbaque to book our little Park Madidi adventure.

Our hostel in Rurre...

Rio Beni

So during two days of brilliant sunshine in Rurrenabaque we booked a three day trip into the wilds of the Parque Madidi rainforest, staying at the Chalalan ecolodge. As you would expect the day we were due to travel it pissed it down, as it did for the full three days we were there...

To get to the ecolodge we had to travel 6 hours by boat up the river Beni. Emma loved it, largely down to the fact that Ian has a lingering fear of boats stemming from a traumatic experience as a child in Whitby... Em especially loved Ian exclaiming "whoa now pickle" repeatedly every time the boat rocked...

Ian putting on a brave face...after his hair blew off

guides, come on lads perk up...

No words

So after Madidi, we made our way to La Paz with the intention of staying 3 days before moving onto Copacabana on the shore of Lake Titikaka (grow up). This transformed into 8 days of watching friends re-runs on cable TV, waiting for three road blocks on the way to Copacabana to clear. In the end we had to skip it and go straight into Peru, with sore bums (this time from bed sores) where we called at the floating island of Uros in Puno...

Floating island, in the middle of lake Titikaka, made from reeds...

Nannan Pats Christmas present sorted...

A mini demonstration of how they make the islands

  1. Oh I do love your updates. This one had it all, the horror of spiders, cute chubby children, banana boats and Ian's head...

The rain forest would have freaked me because of the spiders, just no. The rest of it looks amazing however!

As always, eternally jealous, eternally missing you, eternally drunk.
